Day 1- First, if your hair is straight, and soft, you   might consider bleaching it. This will dry the hair out,  making it less slippery (which would cause the dreds  to fall out). So equip yourself with a box of bleach from the local drugstore,  and follow the instructions on the box. Make sure you don't use the conditioner because, obviously, dreds dont come from conditioned hair.  Once the hair is bleached, brush it and braid it.  Make sure that the braids are little, and do the entire  head. Go to sleep like this. Day 2- Wake up, get dressed in some comfortable clothes that  you don't mind getting wax and whatnot on. Set up your space with a chair,  some sweet music and magazines or some movies, a chair, and your  friend thats dreding your hair. Take out the braids.  Once all the braids are out, brush your hair until it  looks really funny and sick. You are now ready to start the dredding process.  Take a section of hair, big or small depending on the size you  want your dreds. Now take this hair, and twist right, backcomb  (like teasing your hair, comb towards scalp), then twist left,  backcomb. Turn-Comb. Turn-Comb. Repeat until knots have  formed all the way down the hair. Repeat this for all sections of hair. After this is done,  (which should be several hours later), go back and  place each dred inbetween the palms of your hands  and palm-roll (rubbing your hands together). Do this  with wax on your palms to wax the dreds. Take a nice long break. This can, and probably will last for the  night.

Day 3- Now, you have probably notcied that the  ends of your dreds are tricky to get knotted, a way to  neaten up the ends of your locks is to do the   following. Get some sheets of clear beeswax and melt them (preferably not in a cooking pot, as this will not  be easy to clean). Dip the ends of your dreds into the  melted wax, and let cool but not harden. Fold the stringy ends of the wax-covered hair up into the rest  of the dred and palm roll. youre done...sort of... during the first few months of having dred locks they will need a lot of  care. You have to be constantly playing with them, and palm rolling them. You can wash your hair by  putting a knee-high on your head so that the dreds will not fall out. Make sure you re-wax them after  washing your hair, or every couple of days. Nice dreds only come after a lot of playing and rolling and time. so..chill out.

yeah, so everyone dred your hair because its the cool thing to do.
